About Dr. Jess

Dr. Jessica Clauss is a veterinarian and member of the College of Animal Chiropractors.  She graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011.  Following graduation, she worked for one year in New Jersey with a focus on racehorse, sport horse, and pleasure horse clientele. Working on these types of horses developed her talent and expertise in treating lameness and enhacing athletic performance.

In 2012, Dr Jess married and moved to Orchard Park, NY.  She spent her first four years in Western New York working for Springville Veterinary Services, a local mixed large animal practice.  Continuing to work on horses, both performance and pleasure, she felt there was more that could be offered to improve performance, treat pain, and improve quality of life in her patients.

Dr. Jess has long been immersed in the canine and equine worlds.  Growing up, her family had Vizsla dogs that were both beloved family pets and show dogs.  During veterinary school, she spent several years fostering dogs.  Her current dog, Matlock, is her ever enthusiastic hiking and adventure buddy.

Dr. Jess has also owned and shown horses for many years in three-day eventing.  This sport was the initial spark for her interest in performance animals, lameness, and sports medicine.

An avid athlete herself, chiropractic care has been a staple of her own health and well being.  Experiencing chiropractic care firsthand made her realize the immense benefits it could provide.  She wondered if her veterinary patients could benefit from the same type of care.  She sought an option to manage injuries, lameness, and spinal conditions in a safe and non-invasive manner.  After researching various therapies, Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy seemed to fill this gap in her patients' care.

In the spring of 2013, she completed the rigorous Veterinary Spinal Manipulation certification program offered by the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre in Ontario, Canada, and was certified by the College of Animal Chiropractors. Certified to perform spinal manipulation on both horses and dogs, she began to incorporate this therapy into her general practice.  Realizing how beneficial spinal manipulation was to her patients, she quickly developed a passion for it and established Back In Motion LLC in 2016 to focus on chiropractic care for dogs and horses.

When not seeing patients, Dr. Jess spends her time with her husband Joe, their daughter, and their dog, Matlock.  She loves hiking in Chestnut Ridge, cooking a new dish every week, and working out at a local Crossfit gym.
